Allyson is a fourth generation Californian, born and raised in southern California. Since her earliest memories she has been an artist, and throughout school she was frequently recognized and awarded for her artistic achievements.

She studied journalism in college, learning typography, editorial layout and photography and used her creative talents to become a graphic designer. In 1979 she relocated to the San Francisco bay area; Clients included Apple Computer, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco Systems, Ziff-Davis, Applied Materials and Media Arts Group.

One day she realized that she had been neglecting her first love, painting. She immediately went to the art store, stocked up on supplies and has been painting ever since. In 1999 she moved to the Monterey Peninsula, where she currently resides on the California central coast.

Art is imbued with the energy of the artist, enhanced further by the reciprocal energy of the viewer. Through creativity and focus I attempt to create idealized expressions of personal experience that move or intrigue me long enough to pause and ponder. To capture someone’s attention is the power of art.

Written onto many of the canvases are affirmations, prayers and mediations using a private vocabulary of image, symbol, and stylized cursive and printed words that have been evolving since I was 3 years old. Many paintings have the words “Love is always the answer” scrawled in many places, both large and small, hidden beneath many layers of translucent color. The words are obscured, but the energy remains. The results are intensely personal expressions of my experience; giving me great joy in both painting and viewing.

I consciously create an atmosphere and feeling of joy while painting to increase the positive energy in the final piece. It is important that the entire process remains joyful and expectant as the painting reveals itself to me. I stop painting when a piece makes me smile each time I see it.
